Skirt Amélie Sewalong - Part 3 - Inseam Pocket Assembly

Skirt Amélie Sewalong - Part 3 - Inseam Pocket Assembly

Today we will be diving in to assembling our inseam pockets because... who doesn't love a good pocket? If you were planning on adding Patch Pockets to your skirt, awesome! Simply pop over to the Bra Friendly Dress Sewalong - Part 6 - Patch Pockets. You can circle back once you are done.

Note: For sizes N1-P1, you will need to attach the skirt extension pieces BEFORE working on your pockets. Skip to Part 4 - Skirt Assembly before coming back to add your pocket pieces.

First things first -  you need to finish the curved edge of your pockets before attaching them to your skirt side seams. You can do this with a serger, zig-zag stitch, or pinking shears!

With RST, pin the straight edge of your pocket piece to the edge of one of your Front Skirt side seams, matching your notches. Sew these pieces together using a 3/8” (1 cm) seam allowance.

Repeat with your other Front Skirt as well as both Back Skirt Pieces.

Finish the straight seam of your skirt making sure to catch the straight edge of your pockets as well.

Press your seam allowance in towards the pocket.

Understitch your pocket edge.

Repeat these same steps with the remaining three pocket pieces.

Awesome - now your skirt pieces are nearly fully prepped and ready to be sewn together, which is what we will be tackling in Part 4 - Skirt Assembly.
